One of its main tourist attractions is the famous mangrove tour that was formed when Hurricane Isidoro passed through the Yucatan peninsula in 2002.
The people of the village worked for some time to clean their own locality, being they who provide the tours nowadays.
Admission is 60 pesos! (3usd) The time to get to the waterhole is about 25 minutes, once we arrive the guide gaves us about 30-45 minutes to swim.
Once again we were lucky to be the first ones to arrive! so the guide let us have our time, he showed us crocodile eggs and told us that they also do a night tour to see them, but this is for the adventurous travelers out there. We saw a small crocodile, but as soon as he saw us, he ran away.
After 25 minutes, we finally arrived at the waterhole! what a natural wonder. The depth of the mangrove is 40cm and the waterhole 1 meter.
After the hurricane 11 fish were trapped in the waterhole, the guide told us that they are saltwater fish, but they had to adapt to fresh water. They are quite large, but they are very used to being with people. Do not bother or chase them!
This experience has left us many learnings and a huge desire to return!
Our guide has asked us to divulge this place since this is the main income for many of them, so I would love to invite you to know this natural wonder and always support the people who need it the most.
Do not forget to buy your «coconut cremita» on the way back and above all, do not leave garbage anywhere.
